Alcatraz pyramid

Some bloke claims to be building a pyramid-shaped alien fuel station on Alcatraz Island in the States (you can read about it at the Huffington Post). Not a particularly interesting story, but the fantastically outsider art-y composite image (above) is a lot of fun.

Druidstone

A few weeks ago, I was at the utterly fantastic Druidstone arts marketing course, on the extremely rural West coast of Wales.

If you work in arts marketing, qualify for the course, and have a nice employer who will let you go on it, I'd recommend it without hesitation. The course lasts a week, but what you learn - and the people you meet - will stay with you for a long time afterwards.

QR codes – does anyone care?

In recent months, QR codes seem to have started appearing all over the place. They've been getting some attention from arts marketers over the last year; personally I'm not sure how useful they are, but I'm willing to give them a chance - so, at work, our first ones are now beginning to appear on this year's Christmas show posters.
Do you care enough to scan it?
To see how well the public understand them - and whether they're here to stay, or just a fad - I tried to find some relevant stats on UK consumer uptake of QR codes. Research agency Simpson Carter recently (September 2011) published some interesting information on them. In their online survey of 794 people, they found that:
